I’m in! I’ll be competing in the National Bible Bee in Washington, D.C., 4–6 November. I’ll have to be studying a lot—there are around 1500 verses to have memorized. In two days, on September 12, is the local competition of the National Bible Bee. I’ve studied quite a bit during the summer, including on walks with Apple’s iPod shuffle—I had recorded most of the Bible memory passages myself.

The theremin is an instrument that you don’t touch. Really.
It’s an electic instrument, invented in 1920 by the Russian inventor Léon Theremin (born Лев Сергеевич Термен Lev Sergeyevich Termen) when he was twenty-four. He was a scientist, working on proximity sensors, when he got the idea for a musical instrument. A vertical antenna affects pitch—the closer an object is to it, the higher the pitch.
